A delegation of the Central Council of Kurds in Germany (ZKD) met senior leaders of the German city Kalkar. With the mayor Dr Britta Schulz (Forum), group leader Walter Schwaya (SPD), group leader Willibald Kunisch (Greens) and group leader Ansgar Boßmann (CDU) the ZKD delegation spoke about integration. The delegation explained amongst other things the special situation of the Kurds in Germany, who come from different countries, and because of their statelessness are assigned to Syrians, Iraqis, Turks and Iranians by the German authorities. “Somehow, the oppression of Kurds continues in Germany and thus the authorities miss the opportunity to find adequate solutions to their specific problems,” the Kurdish representatives regretted. The Mayor welcomed ZKD’s commitment, assured her support, and was particularly pleased that the umbrella association had included the goal of gender equality in its statue. After a one-hour exchange, both sides were pleased with the progress and promised to continue to talk and exchange in the future.
